Chuck / Dune Atari and more March 5, 2009

Our Atari world have no age ... We forget when we talk about code, music or gfx that time passed by, i always see my atari friends like we were 18 years old ... But life seems to not see it like us ... Thanks for your legacy, we will make it alive ... RIP

When I first started down the road of computer-based music, Tim's was one of the first names I remember seeing since he seemed to be involved with sound design for EVERYTHING...it's true- you really can tell a TC patch when you hear it! And as inspiring as his sounds and music are, even in my very limited dealings with the man- his brand of positivity and enthusiasm always shined right through. I always looked forward to his insights and comments as I nearly always took away from them something I didn't know previously.
To say he'll be missed simply doesn't cover it. I hope that he's got a wonderful view of the stars now and I can only imagine the music that he's making with the others who have gone before him.
All my best to his family and friends who knew him more personally.

In my occasional communications with Tim, I found him incredibly open, honest, friendly, and highly intelligent.  The music community at large is in his debt.  Thank you, Tim, for all of your help through the last many years.
My heart goes out to his friends and family.

Good journey Tim, you won't be forgotten.
Laurie Spiegel Tim will be missed. March 5, 2009

I've known Tim (just by email, we never got to meet in person) since the 1980s and he's been an important and wonderful friend all these years. We wroten back and forth many many times these many years and really became friends, not just casual online acquaintances. We first met through a program I wrote called "Music Mouse" which Tim kept alive for Atari on his Atari MIDI site at  http://tamw.atari-users.net. We both have creaky old Electrocomp synths, play guitar, and had much in common. With his positive spirit he would always pep talking me if I got discouraged, suggesting new projects... and just now we we've been talkng about doing some presets together for the new Camel Audio plugin he's been working on - finally actually working on something together. Not to be.

So many many times we have emailed each other some silly little tidbit, mostly to just keep in touch, as well as writing long messages. So many of us have seen expressed in his love of music making and music tech, it has helped us keep going all these years. It will be so hard to get through my head that he's not there any more.  Tim was so very much there for other people.

We were Tim's hiking partners on the day he passed away.  We were hiking the Maguire Peaks Trail in Sunol Regional Wilderness near Fremont, CA.  Tim's last views were of hawks flying, green hills with early wildflowers blooming, and mountain peaks and lakes stretching into the distance.  Here are two pictures from our hike.

Tim Playing the Flute

We moved next to Tim and Diane on San Miguel Ave. here in Santa Clara about a year ago. Tim and I started taking walks at night through our Santa Clara neighborhood.  My mother recently passed away, and I'll never forget how Tim pulled me out of my grief by showing up promptly at 8:00, knocking on the door, ready to walk...whether I felt like it or not !

We are truely shocked and saddend by Tim's passing.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Diane, his daughter Christina, and their wonderful familes who we've just been meeting for the first time. Tim, I miss you buddy, and I'll walk with you again someday in a different land.

Dearest Timbo...

I have known you for over 35 years....we met in a garage playing music....we went through electronic music school playing with Alan Strange.....We composed together, we ate together, we drank together...we laughed together...I chased 'mice' around your apartment with then girlfriend Diane......I played Organ at your wedding to Diane...I was there when Christina was born....My daughter was named Christina  6 months later.....I consulted you when I worked at Sequential.....I still played music with you.....You spent a wonderful week in Santa Barbara walking the beach with me,  we played more music (after a 15 years absence) and it seemed like NO TIME had passed between chords........we ate...we laughed......we talked every month about my difficulty with MIDI......you laughed at me....I laughed with you.......tim althought over the many years we have seen friends leave us....I always  silently wished that you would never leave us....or me.....HOW  SELFISH OF ME......

Timbo I am so sad at your leaving me,  your family your friends....whom can I talk to now about MIDI?  I guess that will have to wait  until we can play in the heavens high above...........Damn it...I am going to miss you  my dear sweet friend...

I know the musicians above are going to be in shock  but your sweetest sounds come from within....teach them with that gentleness that you grow from your heart

..peace my brother........

Daniel Sammut The passing of a great man March 4, 2009

I didn't know Tim very well personally, I've exchanged a few emails with him over the last year or so yet it feels like I have known him as friend for most of my life. It is because of this that the news of his passing was a great blow which I haven't yet come to terms. It seems Tim had the power to positively influence everyone he came into contact with and that is a rare gift indeed. His passion, knowledge, patience and kind-heartedness are an inspiration to us all. If I only took just a fraction of Tim's qualities, I would be a better person.

Have a good journey, Tim. You have left many behind who will miss you but I'm sure we'll catch up with you some day.

As someone who didn't know Tim, but who was well aware of his contribution to music and sound design, my sincere condolences to Tim's family and friends for their loss.
